The Department of Surgery is seeking a Clinical Surgical Assistant for the division of Orthopedics at the Rockyview General Hospital. As a Clinical Surgical Assistant in the Department of Surgery you will perform a combination of duties that include, but are not limited to: acute care coverage, surgical assist, call work, consultations, and ward management. Legal Status: Applicant must be either a landed immigrant (Permanent Resident) or a Canadian Citizen at the time of application.
Description:
This is an alternate physician provider role in which the successful candidate will work with a limited medical license issued from the College of Physician and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). The incumbent will work under the direction of an attending physician and within a multidisciplinary team setting to deliver acute patient care. This posting is open only to those who have submitted a completed application package to the Alberta Clinical and Surgical Assistant Program (ACSAP) and have received confirmation that they are registered with ACSAP. Program Summary: The Alberta Clinical and Surgical Assistant Program (ACSAP) provides International Medical Graduates (IMGs) with an alternative career path to become Clinical Assistants. ACSAP programs put candidates through a six-month assessment and evaluation that, upon successful completion, can lead to a full-time and permanent acute care coverage role that addresses clinical and surgical coverage needs. Required Qualifications:
Medical Degree: Applicants must be a graduate of a medical school located outside of Canada and the United States, listed in the Foundation of Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) International Medical Directory (IMED). Clinical Experience: (A) Experience in an acute hospital based care facility within the last 3 years. Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME): Must have completed a recognized residency program with a successful completion of an existing board exam. Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination Part I (MCCQE1): Applicants must have passed the MCC Qualifying Examination Part 1 prior to application. English Language Proficiency: As a requirement for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), applicants must have taken the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in Canada with minimum required scores of 7.0 in each of the components within 24 months prior to registration.
