Environmental Health Safety Specialist

This is a Contract position in Auburn Hills, MI posted June 12, 2020.

**CONTRACT TO DIRECT HIRE POSITION**

Responsibilities and Requirements of the role:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the identification of Safety, Health (Ergonomics), and Environmental (SHE) targets, objectives and goals while reconciling them with corporate WABCO Safety Health (Ergonomics) Environment policies and practices as well as legislation and regulations  
  • Demonstrate fiscal management responsibility by operating within your annual SHE controllable expense and capital budgets
  • Conduct S-FMEA and ergonomics analyses of all manufacturing workstations and other site functions, i.e. office, engineering test areas, maintenance, etc. 
  • Lead air, energy, water and waste (hazardous and non-hazardous) management including reduction programs and initiatives and monitoring generation, consumption and disposal
  • Lead incident investigations (first aid, near misses, recordable, environmental, and property damage) using a team-based approach to problem solving and six sigma tools (QR6S) to effectively implement corrective actions
  • Lead the implementation and execution of Wabco’s Safety, Health (Ergonomics) and Environmental (SHE) processes, policies and procedures
  • As scheduled and required, routinely review SHE metrics and prepare monthly performance reports for local and corporate consultation and continuous performance improvement activities
  • Develop, implement, and review an appropriate risk management and disaster recovery strategy to ensure the safety and protection of the sites and its occupants
  • Develop monthly awareness publications and deliver SHE training on regulatory, corporate-mandated and site-related procedures and measure their effectiveness for improvements including new employee orientation
  • Provide day-to-day technical Safety, Health (Ergonomics), and Environmental advice and consultation to employees and contractors
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with plant employees and other work groups, i.e. engineering, PAM, legal, HR, finance, etc. as well as all levels of management
  • Work and communicate with injured employees, medical professionals, claims staff and others to obtain the necessary information to make medical assessments in the best interest of employees and the company
  • Actively participate in WABCO Corporate SHE(E) initiatives, share best practices, and improve local ongoing operations
  • Demonstrate strong human relations and communication skills and the ability to successfully motivate employees throughout the company

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor Degree in Occupational Safety Health and Environment or a related technical field or a combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of industrial work experience in a Safety, Health, and Environmental role
  • Certified in/or capable of obtaining certification in CPR, First Aid, AED, OSHA 30 Hour General Industry and Ergonomics and other applicable certifications
  • Knowledge in Management systems ISO14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO26000 and other relevant systems. The ideal candidate would be a lead auditor in one of these standards.
  • Proficient knowledge of OSHA policies, procedures, and applicable regulations and legislation
  • Knowledge and skill in using a variety of computer software, including the Microsoft Office Suite and Google GSuite
  • Skill in handling and prioritizing multiple projects and preparing and maintaining accurate records, reports and files
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Excellent developed communication and demonstrated motivational interpersonal skills
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
