Haemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis Nurse

Correctional Services Canada has a need for the provision of Renal Dialysis Services in the Regional Medical Hospital, Regional Treatment center, Pacific Institution, so that this service can be delivered in-house.

We are looking for a Haemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis Nurse to provide Haemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis support within the CSC Pacific Regional Hospital dialysis unit in order to decrease the likelihood of outside appointments for this purpose. Currently the Regional Medical Hospital has one (1) Inmate that requires Dialysis Nursing Services up to thirty (30) hours per week. Level of Effort may change, in consultation with the Contractor, in the event that the requirement for Dialysis Nursing Services evolves.


  • Have at least 1 year experience as a Community and/or Institutional Dialysis nurse in the last 2 years;
  • Must be actively registered and licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC);
  • Have current nephrology nursing certification (CNephc);
  • Have current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification;
  • Must perform all work in English.


  • Provide individualized nursing care and dialysis treatment and support to inmate(s) located at the Regional Treatment Centre (Pacific) that require such treatment;
  • The contractor will oversee the dialysis treatment from start to finish, and complete the cleaning of the machines following treatment;
  • Coordinate the Nephrologists on site patient clinic, usually once per week, based on the current needs of the patients being followed;
  • Work primarily independently, and follow standardized decision-making guidelines or tools in order to provide patient care within their scope of practice as a specialty trained nurse;
  • Work closely with the contracted Nephrologist in order to coordinate the care for the patients who require services (ie. on the Dialysis treatment, or those being followed pre-treatment, or for ongoing monitoring and preventative treatment);
  • Work within a structured Correctional setting (Prison Hospital) independently, and meet the established criteria for Security clearances, as well as follow Operational and Security procedures for personal safety (wear Personal Protective Alarm etc.);
  • Update and maintain Site Specific Policy and Procedures Documents for Dialysis care in order to maintain practices to meet evolving and changing community standards;
  • Work closely with the Chief of Health Care and the Medical Hospital coordinator at the site to ensure needs of patients are met and that Accreditation Canada standards are maintained, and Patient Safety initiatives are supported;
  • Liaise with Provincial partners in order to coordinate transfers of care from the institution and to receive patients back into care in a safe manner;
  • Refers to established guidelines by law, Provincial regulation, and/or accepted practice standards within the province in relation to Dialysis provision in a Community setting.


  • Dialysis Nursing Services are required up to 30 hours per week at the Matsqui Complex – Pacific Institution/Regional Treatment Centre
  • Currently the schedule is Monday/Wednesday/Friday/Saturday from 8am to 4pm;
  • Contract to be performed during the period of June 21, 2020 to June 20, 2021;
  • You’ll be supported by a dedicated team (24 hours a day, 7 days a week);
