The Emergency Department at Plainfield is a free standing 12 bed unit, part of Backus hospital’s emergency room, that cares for patients across the spectrum of age, health, education, etc.

The staff includes Registered Nurses, emergency department technicians, Unit Secretaries, Physicians, Mid-Level practitioners, support staff, Public Safety Officers, and in-department radiology.

The Emergency Department is equipped with all tools needed to safely care for any patient from central station cardiac monitoring to ultrasound equipment, to our EHR (Epic ASAP).

We are a primary stroke center.

All staff work together and in a supportive environment to make sure we have a safe environment for our staff & patients, working the most efficiently, and providing the highest level of satisfaction for our staff & patients.

Job Summary Provides holistic, quality and cost-effective nursing care for patients/families and/or others for a patient population within a unit, service or other primary area of practice with an awareness of the episode of care.

Applies the nursing process within the context of the organization’s Framework for Professional Practice.

Functions as clinically competent.

Delegates and supervises work appropriately.

Reports to Unit Manager.

Qualifications Graduate of a school of nursing; BSN preferred.

One (1) year recent RN experience in an Emergency Department or Critical Care setting required.

BLS required.

Ability to obtain and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certifications within 90 days of hire.

Ability to obtain and maintain administration of moderate sedation within 9 months of hire.

Current unrestricted License in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut.
