Position: Healthcare Policy Communications Specialist
Site: Hydro Place 700 University Avenue, 10th Floor
Department: The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation
Status: Temporary Full-Time (12 months contract)

About The Role

The Healthcare Policy Communications Specialist will report directly to the Manager, Strategic Insights & Impact. As part of a highly professional team, the successful candidate will work across the Foundation and our Cancer Centre partners to translate complex information into proposals and stewardship impact reports in support of our fundraising goals.  In addition, this role will serve as a peer mentor to the rest of the team in the area of healthcare system policy and trends. 

Areas of Accountability

  • Conduct, analyze and synthesize environmental scans of best practices, industry trends and data to integrate into plain language donor proposals and stewardship impact reports to demonstrate impact of donor funds
  • Research and summarize complex information into engaging materials for stakeholders
  • Build and manage subject matter expertise within assigned knowledge portfolios while building effective relationships with related Cancer Centre clinical leaders and researchers
  • Collaborate closely with the Philanthropy Team in support of their strategies to attract and engage major and transformational donors
  • Edit, review and amend work in a timely manner in response to stakeholder feedback


  • 5 years of relevant work experience
  • University degree required; Masters in Health or Business Administration or Health/Public Policy preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
  • Exemplary verbal & written communication skills; detail-oriented in editing and proofreading
  • Ability to translate medical/healthcare/research language into donor and impact language
  • Strong critical thinking and communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to work independently
  • Demonstrates excellent logical reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Extremely well organized in order to accomplish a multitude of conflicting priorities under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to execute deliverables within stated timelines
  • Extremely well organized, able to work in a fast paced environment and managing conflicting priorities under tight deadlines
  • Ability to partner with stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner, and to develop and leverage professional working relationships
  • Highly inquisitive and comfortable working with ambiguity to find clarity on materials
  • Proactive mindset to anticipate project challenges
  • Understanding of a hospital or academic environment is preferred; experience working with clinicians and/researchers an asset
