Mental Health & Substance Use Nurse – Overdose Prevention

Position Summary
We have an opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) team in Kelowna. We are seeking an overdose prevention nurse who has an understanding of supervised consumption services, knowledge of harm reduction principals and ability to work with clients with complex mental health and substance use disorders. Previous experience with the marginalized, homeless population would be helpful.

This position will support housing / shelters to set up safe areas for individuals who use substances, provide nursing services to clients accessing these sites, provide community overdose education and training and other duties that support overdose prevention. Attach current resume.

As the MHSU Nurse, you will ensure that persons with serious severe and persistent mental health problems and/or problematic substance use who may or may not be in crisis have access to timely, responsive, evidence-based treatment. You will provide assessment, treatment, case management, community support, and as required, urgent response to clients who may also have serious functional impairment in the domains of physical health and personal, family, financial, occupational, and social life. Functioning as the primary clinician, you will utilize a variety of specialized treatment modalities/therapies for individuals, groups of clients and/or their families.

Shifts of work are Monday to Friday 08:30 to 16:30. This relief position is scheduled to end September 8, 2020 or return of the incumbent.

Graduation from an approved school of nursing.

Two years’ of recent related MHSU experience in the assigned clinical area(s) (such as Adult Short Term Assessment and Treatment (ASTAT), Adult Community Support Services (ACSS), Urgent Response, Elderly Services, Alcohol & Drug) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).

Current valid B.C. driver’s license.

**Experience with the marginalized homeless population is an asset.
