Physician – Medical Director

Missouri University of Science and Technology is seeking a physician to serve as Medical Director for Student Health Services . Student Health Services offers walk-in urgent care health for acute illnesses and injuries from 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Student Health Services is funded by a student health fee and enrolled students receive urgent care health services with no copay. Specialized medical care, procedures, laboratory tests and medications are provided to students at a reduced cost. The physician provides oversight, consultation, and supervision of advanced practice nurses, a physician assistant and other medical service staff in addition to providing direct medical care to students.

The Kaczmarek Sports Medicine Center , located in the Student Health Services Complex is supervised by the Physician/Medical Director. The Physician/Medical Director is the team physician for 400 student-athletes competing in an NCAA Division II sports program. The Sports Medicine clinic operates in accordance with NCAA standards and is staffed by athletic trainers under the supervision of the Physician/Medical Director.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the Physician/Medical Director works in collaboration with the Student Health Operations Director. The Student Health Operations Director is an advanced practice nurse who supervises the nursing and support staff and provides direct care to students. The Student Health Operations Director is responsible for the facility, budget, pharmacy, laboratory, specialized programs, processes, clinic operations and other administrative tasks. The Physician/Medical Director and the Student Health Operations Director work collaboratively  to ensure compliance with HIPAA security and privacy standards, university rules, state medical guidelines, credentialing requirements, quality control standards, risk management policies and best practices in health care. Student Health Services is in the process of completing Ambulatory Care Accreditation. Approximately 25,000 medical and orthopedic visits occur annually at the Student Health Services Complex.  


  • Provide urgent medical care and specialized treatment to students and refer them to medical and surgical specialists when indicated.
  • Provide oversight, consultation, and supervision of the Physician Assistant, Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioners, Athletic Trainers and other medical care providers.
  • Audit 20% of provider charts to assess the quality of care and to meet the State of Missouri supervision requirements.
  • Perform diagnostic evaluations, minor surgical procedures, laceration repairs and wound care that does not need a referral to a medical or surgical specialist.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests, EKGs and radiological procedures.
  • Establish orthopedic treatment and rehabilitation plans in collaboration with athletic trainers for student-athletes.
  • Serve as physician for all intercollegiate teams and athletic health care administrator for NCAA Intercollegiate Sports.  Provide on-site coverage at home football games and occasional consultation for other home athletic events.
  • Provide oversight for the travel medicine program including physical examinations, and recommended
  • Serve as a campus resource on medical issues including disease outbreaks, wellness and disease prevention.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) degree from an accredited medical school
  • Board Certification in an area of primary care (Family Medicine, Sports Medicine, Internal Medicine, etc.)
  • License to practice medicine in the State of Missouri

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of clinical experience post-residency
  • Experience in Sports Medicine
