Postdoctoral Fellow – Metabolism – Sunnybrook Research Institute (SB04202020) Toronto, ON, CA Posted: 4/20/2020 3:31:37 PM

The Sunnybrook Research Institute (fully affiliated with the University of Toronto) has an immediate opening for a temporary full-time, experienced Postdoctoral Fellow in Metabolism in the laboratory of Dr. Marc Jeschke – Professor, Senior Scientist – Division of Biological Sciences, Sunnybrook Research Institute and Director, Ross Tilley Burn Centre (RTBC). The position is supported by a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Our laboratory focuses on translational research to attenuate burn-induced stress, hypermetabolism, and inflammation. The goals of our research are to identify major modulating aspects in these responses and to improve morbidity and mortality of severely burned patients. Research focuses on the adipose-liver mediated glucose and lipid metabolism and how stress alters these central metabolic pathways.

Description

The ideal incumbent is an enthusiastic, highly motivated, organized individual with interpersonal skills who will enjoy collaborating and conducting research in a stimulating environment. As a member of our lab, the successful candidate will lead a team conducting independent research to study cellular and molecular metabolism in burn injuries, as well as the glucose and lipid metabolism during a trauma induced hypermetabolic response. The results from the studies could potentially lead to the development of novel therapies to improve clinical outcomes of severely burned patients.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • PhD (or combined MD/PhD) in Cell Biology or Metabolism, with strong background in molecular and cellular research in cell and whole body metabolism
  • Experience in some or all of the following techniques: tissue processing, imaging (e.g. confocal microscopy), flow cytometry, biochemical techniques (e.g. western blot, IP’s, etc.), primary cell culture, animal/rodent models, molecular biology techniques (real-time gene expression, etc.)
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and results-driven
  • Strong ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven track record of publications in high quality journals required (minimum of 3-5 publications); some successful minor grant funding desirable

In the Jeschke lab, we pride ourselves on fostering a fun, exciting, and productive research environment.

Qualified and like-minded candidates are invited to submit a cover letter (brief description of research experience and interest) and CV to: Dr. Marc Jeschke at marc.jeschke@sunnybrook.ca (with “Postdoctoral Fellow – Metabolism” in the subject line).

We thank all applicants for their interest but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
