Job Description
The Transport Respiratory Therapist will be responsible to provide advanced respiratory treatment to complex/critical patients in unpredictable environments encountered in a wide variety of health care facilities. Transportation and care of these patients will occur via air or ground transport. The Transport Respiratory Therapist will be expected to perform advanced skill procedures learned through specialized training under the direction of the Transport Physician via protocols, guidelines and orders received in person or via telephone communication. These advanced skills may include high frequency ventilation, intubation, chest tube insertion, needle aspiration, intraosseous needle insertion, needle cricothyroidotomy and/or inhaled nitric oxide. The Transport Respiratory Therapist is responsible for collecting, interpreting and reviewing data in order to develop a care plan in conjunction with the Pediatric Transport Nurse. The Transport Respiratory Therapist will participate in outreach activities and teaching of transport stakeholders and team members. The Transport Respiratory Therapist will assume a leadership role in education, quality assurance, project management and clinical activities to enhance and support overall pediatric transport service operations. They will hold joint responsibility with the Transport Nurse for restocking supplies as well as the maintenance and condition of all transport equipment.
