Position Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Chef/Support Services Manager or designate, the Servery Aide (Dietary Attendant) is responsible for preparing and serving meals for residents residing in Shannex’s various service lines. The Dietary Aide is also responsible for the receiving and inventory of food supplies as well as ensuring safety and sanitation standards are consistently met.
Key Duties, Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
The responsibilities with respect to the Dietary Aide are:
· Ensures service delivery meets established department standards;
· Consistently ensures food quality, presentation, and service delivery meet established department standards. Ensures meals are attractive, the correct temperature and portion size, and that service is timely;
· Follows production sheets to guide food preparation and assist with cost control;
· Familiarizes self with the specific needs of each resident e.g. diet restrictions, allergies and special requests/accommodations;
· Familiarizes self with daily changes related to menus and/or residents;
· Provides meal service to residents under the direction of the Support Services Manager/Executive Chef;
· Provides observational information about the behaviors and changes in health status of residents to the Nurse on duty;
· Demonstrates effective communication and rapport with residents that reflects an understanding of the importance of respecting resident’s choices, privacy, promoting independence and the right to refuse services;
· Ensures Servery and dining room appearance meets established standards for cleanliness and organization;
· Maintains sanitation of the servery according to established cleaning guidelines;
· Ensures completion of required documentation e.g. inventory counts, food and equipment temperature and cleaning checklists, security / lock-up checklists, audits, as required;
· Processes pots, pans, and dishware and maintains sanitation dishwasher and dish sinks according to established cleaning guidelines as required;
· Follows disposal procedures according to established waste management guidelines for organics, paper, plastics, cans/bottles, non-recyclable material, etc.
· Follows safety, environmental and infection control practices as per facility policies;
· Is able to work both independently and in a team environment;
· Reports areas and equipment in need of repair to the maintenance department;
· Promotes a safety culture by continuously working safely including but not limited to identifying and reporting hazards, following safe work practices and procedures, wearing personal protective equipment, supporting others to work safely and completing safety education;
· Performs all other duties as assigned.

· Previous experience in working with the elderly in long-term care or a senior living environment;
· Bilingualism in English and French
· First Aid and CPR certification.
