The unit opened in September 2018 with a dedicated neurointensivist and hospitalist team and neurosurgery endovascular surgeons.

The majority of patients are stroke, seizure, subarachanoid hemorrhages and MS.

Patient care may include continuous EEG for seizure monitoring and care for patients with coiling aneurism.

UNC REX is a certified Advanced Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center by the Joint Commission.

Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
